Germany warns Israel: There will be a ground operation in Lebanon "mistake"

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz called on Israel to refrain from launching a ground operation in Lebanon, considering that this would be a “mistake.”

Mertz stated that Germany “will not participate in this war,” stressing also that his country will not participate in securing the Strait of Hormuz, adding: “We do not know of any idea to do so.”

These statements by the German Chancellor come in the midst of the escalation in the intensity of military operations in the region, with continuing clashes between Israel and Hezbollah along the southern Lebanese border, and increasing talk within Israel about the possibility of expanding the scope of military operations within Lebanese territory.

These developments coincide with the continuation of the war between Israel and Iran, which is witnessing an exchange of attacks and threats to expand the circle of confrontation, at a time when the security of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz is witnessing increasing international concern due to the escalating military tensions in the region.

This is accompanied by international calls and efforts aimed at preventing the expansion of the war in the Middle East, amid warnings that any large-scale ground operation in Lebanon may lead to a broader regional escalation.
