A prominent Asian official: Iran will participate in the 2026 World Cup

A senior official in the Asian Football Confederation confirmed on Monday the participation of the Iranian national team in the 2026 World Cup, scheduled to be held in June and July in the United States, Canada and Mexico.

In a statement made by Windsor John, Secretary-General of the Asian Football Confederation, during a press conference held in the Malaysian capital, Kuala Lumpur, where the federation’s headquarters is located, he said: “Iran is a member of ours and we want them to play. According to what we know, Iran will participate in the World Cup.”

He continued, saying: “It is a very emotional moment, and everyone is saying a lot of things. Ultimately, it is the Iranian Football Federation that should decide whether they will play or not, and until today the Federation has told us that it will go to the World Cup,” according to what ESPN reported.
