Representative Jamil Al-Sayyid directed sharp criticism at the Lebanese government for the decisions it took regarding Hezbollah’s weapons, describing the measures taken as a “fatal mistake” in the way it handled negotiations with Israel.
In a blog post published on his account on the “X” platform, Al-Sayyed explained that the Lebanese government, two weeks ago, and based on what he described as directives from abroad, considered the resistance weapons illegal, pointing out that this step came after previous decisions issued with the aim of withdrawing this weapon from the areas south and north of the Litani.
He added that, as he put it, the government is now seeking to hold direct discussions with Israel, through French mediation.
Al-Sayed wondered about the motive behind the government presenting the “free disarmament paper,” stressing that it was possible for the government to propose a formula based on linking disarmament to Israel’s withdrawal during any future negotiations.
He was also surprised by “the government’s disarmament of this card in advance,” and he expected that Israel’s response in any initial negotiating meeting would be to demand that Lebanon implement disarmament decisions first before commencing negotiations.
At the conclusion of his post, Al-Sayed stated that the harm caused by an ignorant official in a position of leadership is comparable to the harm caused by a conspiring official, ruling out the presence of anyone in a position of responsibility who lacks knowledge.
