Suleiman in Baabda: I support direct negotiations with Israel!

Today, the President of the Republic, General Joseph Aoun, received at Baabda Palace former President Michel Suleiman, where an in-depth discussion took place of the general situation the country is going through, in addition to the latest developments and developments taking place.

Following the meeting, Suleiman offered his sincere condolences and sympathy to the families of the martyrs and victims, stressing the importance of not neglecting the conditions of the displaced people who are affected by the Eid holiday while they are far from their original homes and suffering from harsh living conditions.

Suleiman also praised the steadfastness of the people of the border strip and their attachment to their lands despite the current challenges, noting that they are not only Christians, but rather “Lebanese” who embody their belonging and loyalty to “Lebanon” and its land.

In the context of political affairs, he expressed his support for “the initiative proposed by the President of the Republic to negotiate directly with Israel,” considering that this step may be appropriate and appropriate in the current circumstances, and noting that regional countries such as “Egypt, Jordan, and Syria” had previously entered into similar negotiations with “Israel.”

Suleiman explained that “Lebanon cannot remain alone bearing the burdens of this conflict,” pointing out that direct dialogue may be more useful and effective than indirect negotiations that have dragged on for decades, and were halted and disrupted whenever a war broke out without a sovereign decision from the state.

He stressed that “this initiative comes within the framework of implementing international resolutions, especially Resolution 1701, the Taif Agreement and other resolutions that stipulate the exclusive control of weapons in the hands of the state.”
