Prime Minister Dr. Nawaf Salam expressed his gratitude to French President Emmanuel Macron for the arrival of the first batch of French aid, weighing 60 tons, at Beirut Airport. The Lebanese Army has received this shipment, and more shipments are expected to arrive tomorrow.

Salam also reaffirmed his thanks to France for its continued support for Lebanon and its tireless diplomatic efforts.

In a related context, French President Emmanuel Macron called for the necessity of respecting international law and providing protection for civilians in light of this escalation, expressing his deep concern about the situation of the displaced in Lebanon.

Macron announced the sending of emergency aid weighing 60 tons in cooperation with the United Nations, demanding an end to cross-border attacks and respect for Lebanon’s sovereignty, and stressing the continued participation of the French army in the UNIFIL forces in southern Lebanon, since 1978.

For his part, the French delegate to the United Nations, Jerome Bonafon, urged Israel to “refrain from targeting residential areas and respect Lebanon’s sovereignty.”

Bonafon also condemned “the attacks that targeted a UNIFIL battalion,” and stressed that “those responsible must be held accountable.”
