As the military operations continued to intensify in southern Lebanon and the scope of the bombing expanded to include many border villages and towns, Lebanese diplomatic movements appeared towards the Vatican, amid growing concern about the effects of the clashes on Christian villages in the region.
In this context, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants, Youssef Raji, made a phone call with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Vatican City, Monsignor Paul Gallagher, where he gave him a detailed explanation of the latest developments in Lebanon, especially the tragic conditions that the southern border villages are experiencing as a result of the ongoing Israeli attacks.
During the call, Raji asked the Vatican to intervene and mediate in order to preserve the Christian presence in these villages, noting that these villages have adhered to the Lebanese state and its official military institutions as their only reference in all circumstances, and have not abandoned this commitment at any time.
He also warned that the continued military escalation threatens social and humanitarian stability in the border region, stressing the importance of international action to prevent the deterioration of the situation and protect civilians in their villages.
For his part, Cardinal Gallagher confirmed that the Holy See is conducting all necessary diplomatic contacts to stop the escalation in Lebanon and prevent the displacement of citizens from their lands, stressing that Lebanon receives special attention from the Vatican.
He pointed out that Lebanon was and still is present in the prayers of His Holiness the Pope, stressing the interest of the Holy See in preserving its stability and maintaining peaceful coexistence there.
