Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar stated that the attacks launched from Lebanese territory on Israel during the past week were more than those launched by Iran directly against Israel.
Sa’ar’s statements came during his meeting with the United Nations Special Coordinator for Lebanon Affairs, Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert, in Tel Aviv, where he claimed that Hezbollah had entered the war under Iranian pressure.
He stated that the party “joined the war as it did on October 8, 2023, and this time also against the interests of Lebanon,” as he put it.
“Sa’ar” indicated that he informed the UN Coordinator of the Israeli government’s decision not to evacuate the residents of the northern towns this time, stressing Israel’s commitment to protecting them.
He also stressed that weakening Hezbollah represents a common interest for both Israel and Lebanon, according to him.
The Israeli Foreign Minister continued that Hezbollah was the initiator of the attack, considering that no party in the international community was moving to stop it.
These statements come in light of the continued Israeli air strikes on various areas in Lebanon, including the south, the Bekaa, and the southern suburbs of Beirut, where Israel claims they are targeting Hezbollah military infrastructure.
On the other hand, Hezbollah announced during the past few days that it was carrying out a series of military operations with missiles and drones, targeting Israeli sites and bases, as part of the escalating confrontation on the Lebanese front.
