European welcome to the Lebanese government's decisions regarding... "Hezbollah" After meeting: Aoun

The European Union Ambassador to Lebanon, Sandra de Waal, informed President Michel Aoun, during their meeting at the presidential palace in Baabda, of the European Union’s position regarding the latest developments in the country.

Following the meeting, Ambassador de Waal issued a statement in which she expressed her deep sadness over the deaths of innocent Lebanese, while at the same time expressing her welcome for the decisions taken by the Lebanese government last Monday, noting that they are consistent with the policy that the European Union has long followed towards Hezbollah.

It indicated that the European Union bans the military wing of Hezbollah, and distinguishes between this wing, which is subject to sanctions, and its political wing.

The Ambassador renewed the European Union’s calls for the need to respect Lebanon’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, and to work hard to calm the tense situation in the region.

She also stated that she listened during the meeting to the demands put forward by the Lebanese presidency, stressing the European Union’s continued support for Lebanon.
