Cairo is taking precautionary measures and securing supplies to confront the repercussions of the regional conflict

The Egyptian Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources announced that it has taken a series of preventive measures to secure the local market’s supplies of natural gas and petroleum products, in conjunction with the escalation of geopolitical tensions in the region.

The ministry said in a statement on Saturday evening, following the start of “Israeli and American attacks on Iran,” and the concerns raised about the impact on fuel supplies and prices, that the government worked to enhance preparedness to deal with any developments, based on considering energy security an essential element of Egyptian national security.

The Ministry explained that it is closely following the repercussions of the recent military strikes, and the resulting cessation of gas supplies coming from the Eastern Mediterranean through the pipelines, assuring citizens of the diversity of supply sources and alternative capabilities ready to operate.

It indicated that it worked throughout 2025 to secure additional quantities of liquefied natural gas for long periods to meet the needs of the electricity and industrial sectors, by contracting shipments from multiple sources and concluding long-term agreements with international companies, in addition to preparing an integrated infrastructure to receive imports and bringing in gasification ships.

Within the framework of government coordination, the Ministry stressed joint cooperation with the Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy to ensure rapid response to any changes and secure the necessary supplies in the required quantities.

It also highlighted its efforts to increase the available quantities of petroleum products and create safe strategic stocks and reserves of gasoline, diesel and butane, in a way that ensures the stability of the local market in light of the current regional conditions.
