Escalation in the public sector against the Ministry of Finance... accusations of..."Disguised political bribery" and"Selectivity"

The Public Sector Associations Association – military and civilians – denounced the decision of Finance Minister Yassine Jaber to allocate financial assistance to a specific category of public drivers, expressing his question in a statement: “Where did the money that was disbursed so quickly come from, while the demand to correct the salaries and pensions of public sector employees is always met with a lack of funds?”

The group explained that “allocating lump sums to a specific category, outside the framework of a comprehensive financial plan and unified and fair standards, raises serious suspicions about the true objectives of this decision, and places it in the category of discretionary in the management of public funds.”

The group continued, “The bombshell decision benefits those who own dozens of public tigers, while large categories of citizens and eligible people are left outside the circle of support, which constitutes a clear violation of the principle of justice and equality and perpetuates chaos in the management of public funds.” The group warned that “these measures, and the subsequent obligations that will result from them, will inevitably lead to additional financial consequences that will burden the state and the public treasury, and open the door to precedents of uncontrolled spending that will be difficult to contain in the future, which will exacerbate the deficit and increase pressure on the national economy.”

The assembly recalled that it had previously announced in previous statements “its categorical rejection of increasing the gasoline tax and raising the value-added tax, because of its direct repercussions on citizens and people with limited income, in the absence of any comprehensive reform plan that addresses the roots of the crisis.” He considered that “any selective spending that is not based on a clear vision and transparent legal foundations, and at a sensitive political time, amounts to the level of disguised political bribery, and constitutes a serious abuse of the concept of justice among citizens.”

The group pointed out that “the salaries and pensions of public sector employees, military and civilian, including 6 multipliers subject to Council of Ministers Resolution No. 2 dated 2/16/2026, and the subsequent multipliers up to 60 times, are not a favor from anyone, but rather acquired rights as a result of actual service and retirement deductions in accordance with the relevant laws,” stressing that “any circumvention of them in exchange for ill-considered spending is considered a direct violation of the principle of justice.”

The group concluded its statement by emphasizing “full adherence to rights and rejection of any selective policy in distributing public money,” holding the concerned authorities responsible for “the chaos that prevails in the salaries and compensation sector, and the continued social and economic deterioration if we insist on this path.”
