The Real Madrid administration is preparing to make radical changes in the defense line, for technical reasons in addition to the physical problems that affected a number of key players, according to what was reported in the Spanish newspaper “AS”.
The report stated that the club is moving towards not renewing the contracts of Antonio Rudiger and David Alaba at the end of next season, due to the low level of fitness and the recurrence of injuries, as well as the large financial cost, especially in the case of Alaba.
The report also stated that Real Madrid has not yet begun any negotiations with the players, which increases the possibility of their departure for free next summer.
On the other hand, the club’s management sees Howesen as an essential element in the new defensive project, after signing him from Bournemouth, and considers him a long-term option to lead the back line, especially with continued doubts about Eder Militao’s recovery after the second knee surgery.
The plan also depends on promoting young talents, led by Juan Martinez, in addition to Jacobo Ramon, who is performing outstandingly with Como, knowing that Real Madrid has the option to buy him back for 8 million euros.
In parallel, the club places German defender Niko Schlotterbeck, a Borussia Dortmund player, at the top of its list of goals to strengthen the center back position, as he is a suitable option in terms of physical strength, ability to build the game, and young age compared to the current defenders.
