On Friday, US President Donald Trump issued an executive order imposing a new 10% tariff on all countries, after the Supreme Court canceled the comprehensive international duties that he had imposed and which were considered the basis of his economic program.
The American President announced through his account on the “Truth Social” platform: “It is a great honor for me to sign, from the Oval Office, an international tariff of 10 percent that applies to all countries and will go into effect almost immediately.”
The White House reported that Trump’s announcement of 10% import duties would be for 150 days.
The White House also clarified that Trump’s decision to impose import duties will take effect on February 24, and that some goods will not be subject to the temporary duties.
Trump had previously warned of the move, saying the new 10 percent tariffs would be “in addition to our regular tariffs that are already being imposed.”
According to Trump, this tax will be imposed under Section 122 of the Trade Act of 1974, which gives the president the authority to impose temporary trade measures to address balance of payments problems.
