Sheikh Ali Damoush, Chairman of Hezbollah’s Executive Council, stressed adherence to the “right to resistance” in the face of the ongoing Israeli attacks on Lebanon, considering that resistance is “a legitimate right and will remain the symbol of Lebanon’s dignity.” He added that no party, regardless of its position, can abolish this right or diminish the sacrifices of the resistance fighters and their achievements in liberation and protection.
Sheikh Damoush’s statements came during a ceremony honoring Iranian Shiite and jihadist groups that supported the Lebanese people and contributed to removing the effects of the Israeli aggression on Lebanon in 2024 and beyond. He stressed that the state’s responsibility lies in stopping attacks and protecting sovereignty, instead of making more concessions without achieving national interests.
He pointed out that the government must adhere to what was stated in its ministerial statement, especially with regard to the reconstruction file, calling for keeping this national issue away from political differences and calculations. He stressed that the party supports any step that moves this issue forward, on the condition that the promises are transformed into practical and quick measures, and not remain mere statements.
He added that the priority remains the return of the displaced, rebuilding damaged homes, and improving people’s living conditions, noting that there are local and international attempts to obstruct the provision of aid to Lebanon. He stressed that the party will continue to work and will not abandon those affected, and will do its utmost in cooperation with friends to support the Lebanese people.
Sheikh Damoush’s position comes in light of the continuing tension on the southern front, and the faltering reconstruction file after the Israeli attacks that targeted large areas of Lebanon during the year 2024, and the resulting displacement and severe damage to infrastructure and homes. The reconstruction file is considered one of the most prominent challenges facing the government, in light of external political and financial pressures that increase the difficulty of the solution.
