Minister of Economy and Trade, Amer Bsat, said on Friday that Syria represents the most important economic partner for Lebanon, and indicated that the issue of land transport is under study with the aim of facilitating the passage of all trucks that require speedy procedures.
In the context of a television interview, Al-Bassat explained that “the International Monetary Fund wants an explanation, clarification, and approach to the so-called irregular operations in the financial sector, in addition to the legal solution,” adding that “the Central Bank will work on the issue.”
Al-Bassat stressed that “it is unreasonable for the central bank to own an airline or a casino,” considering that “there are assets that would be better to liquidate.”
Al-Bassat also stated that “it is not possible to spend more than revenues,” pointing out that “the demand to increase wages in the public sector is right, but it is costly,” adding: “We have to think about the structure of the public sector and we do not want to repeat the mistake of 2017 regarding the issue of the series of ranks and salaries, and the number of military salaries increase depends on what we can collect from revenues.”
