The Suez Canal records an increase in its annual revenues after overcoming the recession period

The Egyptian government announced that the Suez Canal has achieved a significant increase in its revenues since the beginning of this year, as it rose by 22% to reach $449 million until February 7, 2026.

In a press statement issued today, Wednesday, the Presidency of the Council of Ministers stated that navigation traffic on the canal witnessed a noticeable improvement during the period from January 1 to February 7. The statement stated that 1,315 ships crossed the canal with a total net tonnage of 56 million tons, compared to 1,243 ships with a net tonnage of 47 million tons during the same period last year, which recorded revenues amounting to $368 million, according to the German news agency DPA.

The statement stressed that this increase in transit rates reflects the success achieved by the Suez Canal in maintaining its global position and gaining the trust of its customers, in addition to its ability to adapt effectively to various economic and geopolitical challenges.

After two years of decline, the channel’s revenues regained their annual growth, recording $4.2 billion in 2025 compared to $4 billion in 2024, which represents a growth of 4%, according to the information bulletin issued by the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics.

This improvement is due to the strong performance witnessed in the last months of last year, as revenues rose in December 2025 to $393 million compared to $300 million in December 2024, recording an annual growth of 31%.
