Google seeks to enhance digital communication, and has unveiled a new feature for instant voice translation on the Google Meet platform. This feature aims to bridge the distance between speakers around the world and enable them to have natural conversations in their different languages.
According to what was published by the “Android Headlines” website, the new feature allows users to speak in their original voices and tones during meetings, while the application instantly translates the conversation into the language of the other party, instead of the usual text translation. Google confirms that this technology provides a more realistic and effective communication experience, as it preserves the tone of voice and the speaker’s expressions, which helps convey emotions more accurately.
The feature also allows participants to fully focus on the proceedings of the meeting without the need to follow written texts or read translation on the screen, which enhances the efficiency of virtual meetings.
Despite the advanced capabilities offered by the technology, it still faces some limitations at its current stage. It only supports two-way translation between English and a limited number of languages, such as Spanish, French, German, Portuguese, and Italian, with more languages expected to be added in the future. Also, translation within a single meeting is limited to a specific language pair; For example, when you choose to translate from English to Spanish, the system will not be able to translate other languages used during the meeting.
In terms of availability, the feature will be released on iOS and Android applications for users of some paid subscription packages such as Google Business, Enterprise, and Google AI, while it will not currently be available to free users.
This step comes as part of Google’s ongoing efforts to develop virtual collaboration tools and help multinational companies and institutions manage meetings more efficiently, ensuring smoother communication between work teams and reducing the impact of language differences on productivity and international cooperation.
