The “Russia Today” website reported that “The Economist” magazine published on the cover of its latest issue a picture of the US dollar in the form of a snake, alluding to the dangers threatening the US currency.
The main title of the article stated: “The era of the volatile and declining dollar. Holders of US assets should get used to it.”
The magazine explained that cases of panic among investors have become more frequent, citing an incident that occurred in April 2025 when US President Donald Trump announced the imposition of a “basic tax” on imports, describing it as “Liberation Day.” She added that investors at such times collectively dispose of American assets, which leads to a sharp decline in the value of stocks and the currency.
The magazine noted that this phenomenon, which in the past was limited to emerging markets, has occurred seven times in the last 52 weeks, i.e. a pace about three times faster than in the past decade.
As a result of this state of instability, the price of gold, which is considered a traditional safe haven from inflation and the deterioration of the dollar, has risen by 75% since the beginning of Trump’s second term, recording a historic record exceeding $5,600 per ounce at the end of last month.
The magazine said: “This should make those who believe that America’s financial power is unshakable think again.” (Russia Today)
