Prisoner file: Lebanese-Syrian consensus on the fate of detainees

The Presidency of the Council of Ministers announced, through its official account on the “X” platform, the signing of an agreement between Lebanon and Syria regarding the transfer of convicted persons from the country that issued the ruling to their home country. The agreement will be signed in the government palace tomorrow, Friday, at 11:00 a.m., with the aim of supporting judicial cooperation between the two countries.

The signing ceremony will witness the presence of Prime Minister Nawaf Salam, Syrian Minister of Justice Mazhar Al-Louis, in addition to Deputy Prime Minister Tariq Mitri and Minister of Justice Adel Nassar, along with an official Syrian delegation accompanying Minister Al-Louis.

This agreement comes in the context of regulating legal procedures related to the implementation of judicial rulings issued in both countries, allowing the transfer of convicts to serve their sentences in their home countries, in accordance with applicable bilateral laws and agreements.

It is expected that this agreement will represent an additional impetus for the development of judicial and legal cooperation between Lebanon and Syria, which will contribute to strengthening coordination in judicial matters and facilitating procedures related to convicted citizens of both countries.
