2,100 flights were canceled in the United States due to a snow storm and an unprecedented cold wave

A winter storm hits the southern United States, accompanied by heavy snowfall, causing the cancellation of more than 2,100 flights. Meanwhile, the eastern United States is suffering from an ongoing severe cold snap reaching southern Florida, threatening to break records and put citrus crops at risk.

Bob Oravec, chief meteorologist at the US Weather Prediction Center, explained that the winter storm warnings include parts of southern Virginia, eastern Tennessee, North and South Carolina, and northeastern Georgia. The storm’s intensity is worsening along the southern Atlantic coast, threatening to fall between 6 to 8 inches (15 to 20 centimeters) of snow over a wide area, according to Bloomberg News.

In addition, the region will witness strong wind gusts reaching speeds of up to 45 miles (72 kilometers) per hour in some areas.
