The fourth round of the group stage in the African Champions League ended on Saturday, and this round witnessed the Egyptian club Al-Ahly strengthening its position at the top of Group Two, in addition to an important victory for the Royal Moroccan Army that restored its hope of qualifying.
Al-Ahly of Egypt snatched a valuable 1-1 draw from its host, Young Africans of Tanzania. The home team scored in the last minute of stoppage time in the first half through player Ibrahim Hamad, taking advantage of a lapse in Al-Ahly’s defence. In the second half, Malian player Aliou Dieng was able to score the equalizer for Al-Ahly in the 60th minute, after a pass from Mahmoud Hassan Trezeguet that came as a result of a cross from Ahmed Sayed Zizo.
In Morocco, the Royal Army achieved an important victory over Algeria’s JS Kabylie with a score of 1-0. The only goal of the match was scored by substitute player Hamza Khaba in the 74th minute after a pass from Augusto Carneiro. Despite the Algerian team’s offensive efforts in the final minutes of the match, the Royal Army’s tight defense prevented them from adjusting the result.
Based on these results, the ranking of the second group became as follows:
1. Al-Ahly of Egypt: 8 points.
2. Royal Army: 5 points (leading on goal difference).
3. Young Africans: 5 points.
4. JS Kabylie: 2 points.
In the fifth round, Al-Ahly will face JS Kabylie in Algeria next February 7, while FAR will host Young Africans on the same day.
