Egypt warns: Withdrawal of medications that may threaten heart health

The Egyptian Medicine Authority issued an urgent warning regarding the circulation of six pharmaceutical products, and decided to withdraw them from the market because they did not meet the standard standards, after discovering counterfeit and adulterated packages, in addition to smuggled and unofficially registered packages, which may pose a direct threat to the health of citizens.

The Authority confirmed that the distribution of these medicines would be stopped immediately, while containers of unknown origin were seized and confiscated, and it called on citizens to consult a pharmacist or notify the Authority in the event of any doubts regarding any medication package.

The medications that have been warned against are:

“Iverzine Lotion 60 ML”: It is a topical preparation used to treat some types of skin infections and parasites. Handling non-conforming containers may lead to treatment failure or skin irritation.

“TAVANIC 500 MG”: It is a broad-spectrum antibiotic used to treat serious bacterial infections. Fake containers may cause bacterial resistance or serious health complications.

“Neo Chem 30% WSP – 1kg”: It is a chemical compound used in some medical or veterinary applications. Failure to comply with specifications may affect its effectiveness or cause unexpected side effects.

“Emami Gold Indian Henna 120 gm”: It is a product used to dye hair and skin with henna. Fraudulent containers may contain harmful substances that cause allergies or skin infections.

“Colchicine 0.5 mg tablet BP 2022”: It is a medicine used to treat gout and some inflammatory diseases. Any imbalance in the dosage or composition may lead to serious effects on the heart and kidneys.

“Coloverin-D 30 film coated tablets”: It is a common medication used to treat irritable bowel disorders and gastrointestinal cramps. Fake versions may lose their effectiveness or cause unexpected side effects.

The FDA explained that it had withdrawn thirteen pharmaceutical products during the month of January alone due to fraud and counterfeiting, and confirmed that some of these products’ complications may lead to serious damage, especially to the heart and kidneys.

The authority stressed the continuation of monitoring and inspection campaigns, enhancing health awareness among citizens, and warned against purchasing medicines from unreliable sources or outside approved pharmacies.
