The National Center for Geophysics announced that an earthquake was recorded this morning, Thursday, January 29, 2026, at 6:34. The center stated that the strength of the earthquake reached 2.8 on the Richter scale.
According to what was reported from the center, the location of the earthquake was identified in the sea opposite the Damour area.
The recording of this new tremor off Damour comes in light of noticeable seismic activity witnessed in several Lebanese regions in recent hours and days, especially along the eastern and western mountain ranges and the areas near the Lebanese-Syrian border.
On the evening of the previous day, a reporter reported that an earthquake measuring 3.1 on the Richter scale had been recorded. It struck the Sarghaya region and was felt by some residents of the Bekaa villages, thus forming another episode of light tremors that brought the issue of seismic activity in Lebanon back into the spotlight.
It is noteworthy that the National Center for Geophysics recorded during the past months a series of tremors of varying intensity in different regions, the most prominent of which were the Bekaa, Mount Lebanon, and the marine area off the Lebanese coast, but they did not cause any noticeable damage, which indicates their limited nature so far.
