The political office of the “Lebanese Phalange Party” held a meeting headed by the party’s head, MP Sami Gemayel, in which it discussed the latest political and security developments, and concluded with a statement that included a number of key points.
Regarding the political and security situation, the Political Bureau expressed its concern about the statement of Hezbollah Secretary General Sheikh Naim Qassem, about not remaining neutral in the event that Iran is subjected to a military attack, considering that this statement links Lebanon’s fate to the interests of another country, and repeats an experience that it described as a “failed support war” that brought nothing but devastation, destruction, and displacement to the country.
The Political Bureau also saw that Hezbollah is repeating its attempts to seize the resolution of war and peace, and to attack the covenant and the oath of office, the government and its ministerial statement, and the promises made to the President of the Republic regarding the surrender of weapons, stressing that this constitutes a clear rebellion that harms Lebanon as a whole, and particularly affects the Shiite community.
The Phalange Party affirmed that it will stand firmly against any attempt to control the state or besiege the government, and called on all active forces to unite around the republic and its president, because the battle, according to the statement, is between legitimacy supported by the majority of the Lebanese people, and illegitimacy that seeks to destroy the state. The party renewed its commitment to its firm choice based on the constitution and the law, without any concessions.
On the financial side, the Political Bureau praised the government’s referral of the draft budget to the House of Representatives within the constitutional deadlines, but it expressed its dissatisfaction with the failure to complete the severance of the account, and the repetition of the same constitutional violations, especially with regard to the so-called “budget knights,” in addition to its lack of comprehensiveness.
The Political Bureau called on the state to improve tax collection, end the parallel economy, and combat the illegal economy, as this has a direct impact on the budget’s ability to direct investment, stimulate growth, and enhance productive spending. He stressed that any budget approved without restoring the state’s prestige and strengthening law enforcement will not achieve its desired goals, and will not be a real gateway to real reform, monetary stability, recovery of economic sectors, and achieving sustainable growth.
Regarding the elections, the party stressed the necessity of holding parliamentary elections on their constitutional dates, and called on the state and all its institutions to bear their full responsibilities, most notably disarmament before the elections. He also called for the abolition of Article 112, to guarantee the right of expatriates to vote from their places of residence, in order to achieve constitutional equality and unity of national representation.
