A technical glitch in Gmail causes filters for promotional messages and updates to not work

Several reports indicate that there is a major technical glitch affecting Gmail’s email filtering system, which is the system responsible for reducing the number of promotional messages and constant updates.

Sources indicate that this service is currently stopped from filtering messages, causing inboxes to be filled to an unprecedented extent.

According to what was reported by the “9 to5Google” team, as well as other reports from users on Reddit and the official Google forums, users have begun receiving a large number of unusual notifications, as it appears that the automatic “promotions” and “updates” filters in Gmail have stopped temporarily.

Gmail has long relied on a highly efficient automatic filtering system, which is what made this sudden outage particularly notable. Instead of receiving a few infrequent personal emails, users now receive a constant stream of notifications, messages from companies that are typically categorized under the filtering tabs Google has adopted since 2013.

Looking at these tabs, it is clear that no new emails have been added since the beginning of the problem, which confirms that the automatic system that categorizes or filters emails into each inbox category in Gmail has been temporarily broken.

So far, Google has not officially addressed the problem, despite widespread reports indicating that a wide segment of users have been affected by this technical glitch.
