Singapore: Plan to spend more than $700 million on developing artificial intelligence

The Singapore government on Saturday announced plans to invest more than S$1 billion (equivalent to US$778.8 million) in artificial general intelligence research by 2030, with the aim of enhancing the country’s potential and global competitiveness.

The Ministry of Digital Development and Information explained that this government investment will focus on priority research areas, including developing responsible and resource-efficient artificial intelligence, in addition to developing national competencies from the early educational stages through to faculty members.

The Ministry indicated in a statement that part of this budget will also be allocated to developing the necessary infrastructure to support the adoption and application of artificial intelligence in various industrial sectors.

This step is the latest in a series of government investments in the field of artificial intelligence. (Reuters)
