Tragedy rocks a wedding: a suicide bombing results in casualties near Afghanistan

Pakistani police announced that the death toll from the suicide bombing that targeted a wedding party near the Afghan border had risen to seven, on Saturday, as Pakistan sought to confront the escalation in attacks launched by extremists.

Muhammad Adnan, a police official, stated that the bombing targeted a building that housed members of the “peace committees” during a wedding ceremony on Friday in the “Deira Ismail Khan” area, located in the northwest of the country.

Adnan added that four of the approximately 12 wounded died later in the hospital from their wounds, after it was confirmed that three people were killed in the attack on Friday.

“Peace committees” are composed of local residents and sheikhs, and receive support from the state as part of efforts to combat extremist groups in the border areas with Afghanistan.

No party has claimed responsibility for this bombing yet, while the “Pakistani Taliban” classifies members of the “peace committees” as “traitors.”

On the other hand, “Islamabad” accuses the “Afghan Taliban Movement” of allowing the Pakistani group to plan its attacks from inside Afghanistan, something that “Kabul” denies, stressing that extremist attacks represent an internal problem related to Pakistan.
