Cameroonian disagreements lead to an unusual decision
In a remarkable development that reflects the extent of the differences between the Cameroonian Football Association and the Ministry of Sports, the former Belgian coach of the Cameroon national team, Marc Brace, received a financial reward of 30,000 euros (equivalent to about 32,000 US dollars), despite not leading the team in the recent African Cup of Nations tournament held in Morocco.
This reward was disbursed based on the terms of the contract that “Brice” signed with the Football Association in 2024, and was disbursed by the Cameroonian Minister of Sports, which raised the astonishment of many, especially since the new coach, “David Bago,” who took over the task of training the team before the start of the tournament and succeeded in leading it to reach the quarter-finals, has not received any reward yet.
According to press sources, this strange situation is due to the fact that the Ministry of Sports still considers “Bresse” the official coach of the national team from a legal standpoint, even though the president of the Cameroonian Federation, “Samuel Eto’o,” was the one who actually appointed “Pagoe,” which led to “Bresse” continuing to receive his official salary, while “Pagoe” did not receive any financial benefits.
This incident highlights the extent of the ongoing tension between the Federation and the Ministry regarding the powers of appointment and dismissal, as administrative conflicts sometimes seem to overshadow sporting achievements.
