Existence of a contaminated sample of whole milk powder supplied to “Bay Heart” (X)
Health officials in the United States announced on Friday that whole milk powder, used by “Bay Heart” in the manufacture of infant formula, may be the source of the food poisoning outbreak that has affected dozens of children.
Officials explained that tests conducted by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) revealed the presence of a type of bacteria that could cause illness in two samples related to infant formula.
The FDA found that the bacteria in an unopened can of milk matched a sample from a sick child, and also matched the contamination discovered in samples of organic whole milk powder used in the manufacture of infant formula at “Bay Heart,” which the company collected and tested.
In addition, FDA tests revealed contamination in a sample of whole milk powder supplied to “Bay Heart,” which matched the germ found in a final sample of the company’s milk.
The FDA stated in a statement that these findings are not conclusive and that the investigation is still ongoing “to determine the source of the contamination.”
