Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar urged the European Union to include the “Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps” on the list of terrorist organizations, considering this step necessary in light of the role played by the Revolutionary Guard inside Iran and at the regional level.
Sa’ar’s position was stated in a joint statement with Czech Foreign Minister Petr Makenka, where the two sides stressed the importance of adopting a firm European position towards the “Revolutionary Guard,” which Israel describes as the main pillar of the Iranian regime’s influence internally and regionally, and a focal point in the international debate on Tehran’s policies.
Sa’ar stressed that Israel accuses the “Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps” of directing hostile regional activities against it, considering it the main tool for implementing Iranian policy outside the borders, whether through military or security support or through networks of influence spread in several countries in the Middle East and abroad.
In the context of his talk about the situation inside Iran, Sa’ar stated that cutting off the Internet does not hide the truth of what is happening, and pointed out that “the escalation of repression against the Iranian people is continuing,” accusing the regime of practicing excessive and systematic violence against its citizens.
The Israeli Foreign Minister added: “The Iranian regime is brutally slaughtering its people in their struggle for freedom. The Revolutionary Guard has spread terror and instability in the Middle East and beyond for decades, and today they are leading a massacre against Iranian citizens.”
This position comes amid escalating political and diplomatic pressure on Tehran in a number of Western capitals, amid increasing demands to tighten sanctions and expand the scope of political isolation, especially in light of the continued accusations against the “Revolutionary Guard” of involvement in destabilizing the region.
