An Afghan government official announced today, Monday, that an explosion occurred in the heart of the capital, Kabul, specifically in a heavily fortified area. This explosion resulted in casualties among Afghan and foreign civilians, including deaths and injuries, and no party has claimed responsibility for this act yet.
According to reports, the explosion targeted a hotel located in the “Shahr-e-Naw” commercial district, which includes many government buildings, commercial centers, and embassies. Reuters quoted Abdul Mateen Qane, spokesman for the Afghan Ministry of Interior, as saying that initial information indicates a number of dead and wounded.
The Italian organization “Emergency,” which oversees the management of a hospital in Kabul, announced the reception of 20 injured people at its surgical center in the capital, following the explosion that occurred in the afternoon in the “Shahr-e-Naw” area near the hospital. The organization indicated that seven of these injured had died before reaching the hospital.
The non-governmental organization added that among the injured were four women and a child. In a related context, a security source told Al Jazeera that Chinese citizens were injured in this bombing, confirming that the nature of the explosion has not been fully clarified yet.
It is worth noting that the “Shahr-e-Naw” area is considered among the most secure areas within the Afghan capital.
