Mostafa Abu Zahra settles the controversy regarding the fate of the Dean

Mostafa Abu Zahra, a member of the board of directors of the Egyptian Football Association, put an end to the doubt regarding the future of Hossam Hassan, the coach of the Egyptian national team, after the end of the 2025 African Cup of Nations.

“Hossam Hassan” had led the national team to fourth place in the African championship hosted by Morocco recently.

The “Egyptian national team” reached the semi-finals, but lost to Senegal with a clean goal, then suffered another defeat against Nigeria with a score of 2-4 on penalties after a goalless draw in the third-place match.

However, some Moroccan press reports indicated that the Egyptian Football Association had decided to dismiss the national team’s coaching staff led by “Hossam Hassan,” especially after his controversial statements about the Moroccan organization of the tournament.

But “Abu Zahra” confirmed in statements to the Egyptian “On Sport” channel, in the early hours of Sunday morning: “Hossam Hassan will continue to lead the Egyptian national team.”

He added: “Hossam will be the coach of the national team in the 2026 World Cup, there is nothing that requires discussion.”

The “Egyptian national team” is preparing to participate in the World Cup for the fourth time in its history, where it plays in Group G, which includes the teams of Belgium, Iran, and New Zealand.

The tournament will be held in the United States of America, Canada, and Mexico, during the period from June 11 to July 19.

The member of the Football Association Council confirmed that the Egyptian national team will play 4 friendly matches in preparation for the World Cup.

He said: “We will play against Saudi Arabia and Spain in March, and there is a match against Brazil in the international break in June, then we will face Norway or another team.”
