خلافات حول تعيينات الجمارك: ردّ من ضو على سلام

Against the backdrop of the ongoing controversy surrounding the recent appointments in the General Directorate of Customs, MP Mark Daou responded to Prime Minister Nawaf Salam via his account on the X platform.

Daou’s post stated: “Mr. Prime Minister, whoever insisted on it bears the responsibility. You don’t have to bear everything. A statesman defends the decisions of institutions, but whoever wanted to appoint such a person for their own benefit and not for the benefit of the nation, let them come out and tell the people why they insisted on it, and stopped the appointments for four months for the sake of someone accused in files and the August 4th investigation.”

Daou’s position is considered a comment on the Prime Minister’s clarification, in which he affirmed that he listened to the objections of those objecting to the appointments, especially the families of the martyrs and victims of the Beirut port explosion, expressing his full understanding of their feelings of concern and his commitment to reaching the whole truth without protecting anyone at the expense of the law.

Salam also affirmed that the “presumption of innocence” is a foundation of justice, and allows anyone who has not yet been convicted to exercise their rights fully, including appointment to public office, while emphasizing that this cannot be a cover for anyone, and that the judiciary alone has the right to pursue the case independently and hold accountable anyone proven to be involved, regardless of their position.
