A Deal That Provokes Discontent
French club Paris Saint-Germain has joined the heated race to sign “Dru Fernandez,” the promising young talent in the ranks of Barcelona.
Barcelona officials were greatly shocked after “Dru Fernandez” informed the management of his desire to leave the club next January by activating the release clause in his contract, which amounts to 6 million euros.
ESPN reported that the Parisian club is a potential destination for the player, thanks to the strong relationship between the team’s coach “Luis Enrique” and “Ivan de la Peña,” Fernandez’s agent, which may facilitate his move to the “Parc des Princes” stadium.
The relationship between Barcelona and Saint-Germain has been noticeably strained since the Brazilian star “Neymar da Silva” moved to Paris in 2017 after paying the release clause, which amounted to 222 million euros.
In the same context, the Spanish newspaper “Mundo Deportivo” confirmed, quoting sources from inside the Barcelona dressing room, that the player had told his teammates that he would join Saint-Germain.
However, the player’s representatives deny this so far, and confirm that “Dru” has not received any offer from Saint-Germain, and that his next destination has not yet been decided.
It is worth noting that the player joined Barcelona in 2022 when he was fourteen years old, and developed rapidly in the club’s academy, which led to him being compared to big stars such as “Thiago Alcantara” and “Pedri.” He also shone with the first team and scored a wonderful goal in the preparation period against Daegu Korean, before playing his first official match against Real Sociedad in the Spanish League.
Despite “Fernandez” participating in 5 matches with the first team this season and receiving great appreciation from coach “Hans Flick,” sources confirmed that the club felt a great shock due to the message it received from the player and his representatives this week regarding his plan to leave.
“Fernandez” celebrated his eighteenth birthday this week with a cake presented to him by his teammate “Rafinha” on the plane while returning from winning the Spanish Super Cup against Real Madrid, where expectations in Barcelona indicated that he would renew his contract to raise the value of his release clause, but the player surprised everyone with his decision to leave.
So far, the final destination of “Fernandez” has not been clearly determined, but sources confirmed to “ESPN” that in addition to Paris’s interest, the player is being closely followed by Borussia Dortmund, and major clubs such as Bayern Munich, Manchester City, and Chelsea have followed the talented player for years and have expressed interest in him in the past.
