The U.S. President Donald Trump’s Special Envoy for Greenland Affairs, Jeff Landri, affirmed that the United States takes the issue of Greenland seriously, and indicated that the latest step is to reach an agreement in this regard.
In an interview with Fox News, Landri explained that President Trump has explained Washington’s position to the Danish government and clarified its objectives. He added that the task now rests on Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Vice President J.D. Vance to work to finalize this agreement.
It should be noted that Greenland is part of the Kingdom of Denmark, but President Trump has repeatedly expressed his desire for the island to become part of the United States, due to its strategic importance for U.S. national security, and has not ruled out the use of force to achieve this goal.
In contrast, Denmark and the Greenland government have warned against any attempt to control the island and emphasized the need to respect sovereignty and territorial integrity. European Union countries also previously discussed potential responses if U.S. statements turned into concrete actions.
