The Ministry of Agriculture called on all partners and supporters in the agricultural field to expedite assistance to farmers who were affected by the floods that swept the Grand River basin in northern Lebanon, which caused severe damage to agricultural lands.

In a statement issued by it, the ministry explained that the recent flood caused great damage to agricultural crops and plastic houses on a large scale, which threatens the livelihoods of hundreds of families that depend mainly on agriculture and increases pressure on local food security in the region.

The ministry also indicated that the work teams of the Akkar Agriculture Department immediately began field survey and assessment operations to estimate the size of the losses and determine urgent priorities, whether in relation to the rehabilitation of greenhouses, or the provision of support from seeds and seedlings, or the preservation of livestock.

In this context, the Ministry of Agriculture appealed to local and international organizations, donor agencies, agricultural institutions, non-governmental organizations, in addition to the private sector, to contribute to reform and relief efforts, each according to its ability.

It indicated that those wishing to provide direct support can contact the Ministry of Agriculture through the Akkar Agriculture Department, in order to coordinate assistance based on the most urgent needs.

The ministry concluded its statement by emphasizing its support for farmers to face this ordeal, considering that “every assistance, no matter how small, contributes to restoring life to the fields and protects the continuity of agricultural production,” and stressing that “food security is a shared national responsibility, and with everyone’s support, farmers can be helped to rise again.”
