The Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure has announced an initiative to establish a new company, in cooperation with both the “Bee’ah” Group and the “Lohum” company. This step aims to create a comprehensive system for managing electric car batteries in the United Arab Emirates, in order to enhance the circular economy and achieve the goals of sustainability and clean energy.
This project is an extension of a previous cooperation agreement between “Bee’ah” and “Lohum”, with the support of the Ministry, to introduce advanced technologies for recycling lithium-ion batteries into the country. It is planned that this facility will be established in the “Bee’ah” integrated waste management complex in the Al Saja’a area of the Emirate of Sharjah, and will be equipped with the latest technologies for recycling electric vehicle batteries and other types of lithium-ion batteries.
The project aims to process approximately 1,500 tons of batteries by 2026, with plans to double operational capacity within three years. This partnership was announced on the sidelines of Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week events, specifically during the World Future Energy Summit 2026, with the aim of developing the first large facility in the Emirates for recycling electric car batteries and reusing them in “second life” applications.
