With the ever-increasing size of applications and the limited storage capacity of smartphones, “Google” is striving to develop innovative solutions for Android users, with the aim of improving the user experience, especially on devices with small storage capacities.
“Google” has announced a new update to the “Google Play” store that includes the “App Archiving” feature, which enables users to save a large amount of storage space without having to completely delete applications or lose their data.
This feature works by removing unnecessary files for applications that are not frequently used, while preserving the data and information associated with them. This allows the application to be restarted quickly when needed, without having to reset settings or log in again.
This step is part of “Google’s” strategy to ease the burden on Android phones with limited storage capacity, and give users more flexibility in managing space without affecting the performance of their devices or losing important applications.
How does it work?
The “App Archiving” feature allows the user to remove the application’s main files from the phone without affecting its data or settings, or even the application icon itself.
In other words, the application remains visible on the screen while preserving your data, but the majority of the files that occupy storage space are freed up. When the application is archived, the user’s data, settings, and basic files are preserved.
If the user wants to reuse the application, he can download it again with one click, and he will find his data as it is.
Enable Archiving Automatically
The feature does not work automatically once updated, but must be activated from the “Play” store settings. To activate it, open the “Google Play” application on your phone, click on your profile picture at the top of the screen, then go to Settings, select “General” and activate the “Automatically archive apps” option.
After activating this option, the “Play” store will start archiving applications that you do not use often, especially when the storage space on your device is about to fill up, which helps you install new applications or files more easily.
The benefit of archiving
Users usually resort to uninstalling applications to free up space, but this may mean losing data or having to reset again if they need the application later.
In contrast, the “App Archiving” feature helps save a significant amount of space, which in some cases may reach about 60% of the original size of the application, while keeping user data intact and application icons visible.
