On Monday evening, the sports and political circles in France were shaken by the murder of “Alain Orsoni,” the former historic president of the French club Ajaccio, during his participation in his mother’s funeral in the town of Vero in Corsica, as a result of being shot.
French police confirmed the assassination and launched a wide-ranging investigation to uncover the details of the crime. “Nicola Septe,” the public prosecutor of Corsica, stated that “Alain Orsoni” was shot from a distance during the funeral in the village, which is about 30 kilometers east of Ajaccio, the island’s capital overlooking the Mediterranean Sea.
The public prosecutor clarified that Orsoni died immediately from his injuries, at the age of 71, while security agencies began their field and judicial procedures to identify the perpetrators and the possible backgrounds of the incident.
Orsoni is considered a prominent figure in the history of Ajaccio club, where he served as president from 2008 to 2015, a period considered the most difficult administratively and financially. During his presidency, he was able to save the club from severe crises and reorganize its affairs, before leading it to promotion to the French First Division “Ligue 1.”
Despite limited financial resources compared to some major clubs in France, Ajaccio, under Orsoni, managed to maintain its presence for several seasons in the top league, making him one of the most prominent presidents in the club’s history.
