Real Madrid president saw Xabi Alonso as the ideal man for a new era.

Transfer market expert Fabrizio Romano revealed Florentino Pérez, the president of Real Madrid, felt after the sudden announcement of Xabi Alonso’s departure from coaching the first team, describing the day as “sad inside Real Madrid.”

Romano said via his YouTube channel that the club’s management saw Xabi Alonso as the ideal man to start a new era inside Real Madrid, noting that the project planned with the Spanish coach aimed to bring about a different technical shift.

He added that Alonso’s departure was a real shock to Florentino Pérez and all the pillars of the administration, stressing that frustration was the most prominent title inside the club’s offices, given the officials’ conviction that Alonso was the option capable of reshaping the team’s identity and giving it a new breath.

Romano’s statements come in the wake of the accelerating events witnessed by Real Madrid in the past hours, after losing to Barcelona 3-2 in the Spanish Super Cup final in Saudi Arabia, a match that was immediately followed by the step of ending the relationship with Alonso by mutual consent.

Despite the official statement in which Real Madrid emphasized Alonso’s status as a club legend, press reports, led by the “AS” newspaper, revealed that the coach himself requested to leave after the final, in a decision that surprised the administration and put Pérez in front of a reality that was not planned for at this time.

What has been circulated later about internal crises increases the sense of frustration inside the club, after the “El Chiringuito” program talked about a state of laxity and lack of discipline among some players during training in Alonso’s era, which further complicated the situation inside the dressing room.

Quickly, Real Madrid moved to close the file and announced the appointment of Álvaro Arbeloa as the new coach of the first team, seeking to impose stability and restore discipline.
