The Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned the British ambassador today, Monday, for the second time, expressing its strong displeasure and condemnation of the desecration of the Iranian flag inside the Iranian embassy in London by some individuals. It also expressed its objection to the British government’s failure to take sufficient measures to protect the embassy.
The British ambassador stated during the meeting that he apologizes for the offense to the Iranian flag as a result of this attack, and confirmed that his government will take “all necessary measures to prevent the recurrence of such incidents.”
The Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs affirmed its determination to take “appropriate measures” if the United Kingdom repeats its failure to fulfill its legal and international obligations regarding the protection of Iranian diplomatic missions.
It is noteworthy that the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs also summoned the British ambassador yesterday, in protest against “the attack carried out by hostile elements on the Iranian embassy in London.”
In the same context, the Iranian Foreign Minister “Abbas Araghchi” made a telephone call with his British counterpart, during which he emphasized that the United Kingdom is “obliged to guarantee the safety and security of the Iranian embassy and consulate in London,” demanding that London “avoid interference in Iranian internal affairs.”
