The Iraqi Minister of Transport, Razzaq Muhibis Al-Saadawi, announced on Sunday the removal of all obstacles and problems hindering the completion of the Nasiriyah International Airport project, confirming that the opening will take place in March.

The Minister of Transport pointed out that “his visit to the Dhi Qar Governorate comes within the periodic visits to follow up on the implementation of the Nasiriyah International Airport project,” stressing that “the completion rates are very advanced.”

He added that “all the difficulties, obstacles, and problems facing the work of the company implementing the Nasiriyah Airport project have been overcome, including advances, contract addenda, letters of guarantee, and other important matters and observations that the company was suffering from, and they have been completely resolved,” as reported by the Iraqi News Agency “WA”.

The Minister of Transport completed his speech by saying: “What is now required of the company is to work continuously in order to implement the Nasiriyah International Airport project within the specified timeframes.”

He indicated that “the people of Dhi Qar Governorate are waiting for this project, as it is an important economic project for the governorate and for Iraq, and it will provide a safe and comfortable means of travel for the people of the governorate, and it is its only air outlet and gateway to the world and communication with the outside world, so we stressed today to the implementing company the need to speed up implementation according to international standards and the requirements of the International Civil Aviation Organization.”

Al-Saadawi stated: “We are now in the process of a trial opening of the project, and we are waiting for the arrival of navigational devices from European sources within international standards, and according to what the company has promised us, Nasiriyah International Airport will be opened in the third month of this year.”
