Reuters reported, citing a U.S. official, that the United States launched airstrikes targeting ISIS positions in Syrian territory, in the context of ongoing operations aimed at eliminating the remnants of the organization in the region.
Detailed information about the nature of these raids and the targets they hit was not immediately available.
The U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) announced last December that it had carried out several airstrikes targeting ISIS camps in the central Syria region.
In a related context, the U.S. military stated last Tuesday that the United States and its allied forces had killed or arrested approximately 25 ISIS members since the airstrike carried out in Syria earlier this month.
CENTCOM clarified that the purpose of these raids is to prevent ISIS from exploiting the current situation to reorganize and reposition itself in the central Syria region.
It is worth noting that these strikes came in response to an attack launched by ISIS that killed three American citizens on December 13 in the Palmyra region.
