French President Emmanuel Macron affirmed the strength of the relationship between France and the Mediterranean countries, focusing particularly on the distinguished ties that bind France to “Lebanon,” and emphasizing his country’s support for Lebanon’s sovereignty and its assistance in overcoming the current difficulties.
In a speech delivered during a meeting of French ambassadors, Macron stated that France will remain supportive of “Lebanon” in the political, economic, and security fields, pointing to the efforts made by Paris to help the Lebanese government overcome its accumulated crises.
The French President indicated that supporting “Lebanon” is an important part of the priorities of French foreign policy in the region, explaining that Paris has organized, and continues to organize, international conferences to support the Lebanese army and strengthen its capabilities, in addition to conferences dedicated to supporting reconstruction and supporting the Lebanese government on the path of necessary reforms.
Macron affirmed that the stability of “Lebanon” is a pivotal element in the stability of the Eastern Mediterranean region, emphasizing France’s commitment to continuing its supporting role for “Lebanon” on all levels, in line with respecting its sovereignty and strengthening its legal institutions.
Macron’s statement comes in the context of a consistent French policy towards “Lebanon,” which is based on supporting the state and its institutions, particularly the Lebanese army, in light of the political, economic, and financial crises plaguing the country. Over the past years, Paris has led many international initiatives to mobilize financial and humanitarian support for “Lebanon,” and it has also played an important role in encouraging the implementation of structural reforms that are considered a prerequisite for any sustainable international support, while France consistently stresses its rejection of any attack on the sovereignty of “Lebanon” or its involvement in regional conflicts.
