مليونان وأكثر من الوثائق السرية: قضية "إبستين" تثير نقاشاً حاداً في واشنطن

The administration of US President “Donald Trump” is facing fierce criticism from the Democratic opposition, which accuses it of deliberately obscuring and delaying the publication of documents related to the “Jeffrey Epstein” case.

In a related context, the US Department of Justice revealed the existence of more than two million files related to the case that are still under review and have not yet been published, although the Transparency Act requires the government to release all documents by last December 19. So far, only about 12,285 files containing approximately 125,575 pages have been published, which represents less than 1 percent of the total materials under review, according to the US Attorney for the Southern District of New York.

According to a letter sent by Attorney General “Jay Clayton” to Federal Court Judge “Paul Engelmayer,” the review process is still ongoing on a large scale, with the participation of more than 400 lawyers who are manually auditing the documents, with the aim of protecting the privacy of victims and preventing unauthorized disclosure of their identities. He explained that this process began on December 24, and is expected to continue for “several more weeks.”

“Many of the lawyers tasked with the review have experience in cases involving the protection of victims’ privacy, which is necessary given the nature of the materials and documents that require careful redaction,” “Clayton” affirmed, adding that “despite the broad and intensive commitment from the ministry’s staff, there is still a great deal of work to be done.”

In contrast, the Democratic opposition is increasing the intensity of its criticism of the American administration, considering that the delay in publishing the documents goes beyond technical matters and represents a deliberate attempt to conceal information.

This file comes in the context of a law that was passed with the support of both the Republican and Democratic parties, requiring the government to publish all documents related to the case, while the case is gaining additional sensitivity due to the previous relationship that brought “Trump” together with “Epstein.”

It is noteworthy that “Epstein,” who was famous for his extensive relationships with influential and wealthy figures, was convicted in 2008 of charges related to sexual assault on minors, and served a reduced sentence, before being arrested again in 2019 on charges of sex trafficking of minors, and later died inside his cell in circumstances that still raise suspicions.
