Minister of Finance, Yassin Jaber, affirmed the great importance the ministry attaches to developing vocational and technical education in Lebanon, and the continuous work to improve its levels to keep pace with rapid global developments.
In his meeting with a delegation of vocational education teachers, accompanied by MP Ashraf Baydoun, he stated: “We look forward to vocational education as one of the pillars of the educational structure capable of supporting the economic sectors with productive energies and cadres, and of revitalizing labor markets by supplying them with specialized energies, and this requires that vocational education be up-to-date and supporting these sectors with the necessary expertise.” He pointed out the necessity of positive interaction with all proposed laws and projects that aim to do justice to the teachers of this sector, considering that “the draft law submitted by MP Baydoun to conduct a limited competition for contracted teachers and subject them to a specialized course” is a realistic solution after assessing the need and financial impact.
In a separate context, Minister Jaber met with a delegation of heads of sales of tobacco products, to discuss the fees related to the draft general budget law for “2026”. It was agreed to conduct a joint study between specialists in the ministry and the “Tobacco and Matches Authority – Regie” in this regard.
