Minister of Finance, Yassin Jaber, affirmed the great importance he attaches to the development of vocational and technical education in Lebanon, stressing the serious pursuit of enhancing it and raising its level to keep pace with rapid global developments and meet increasing needs.
During his reception of a delegation of vocational education teachers, accompanied by MP Ashraf Baydoun, the minister stated that the ministry considers vocational education a fundamental pillar of the educational system, as it is capable of providing the economic sectors with productive competencies and energies, and stimulating labor markets by supplying them with specialized cadres. He pointed out that this requires vocational education to be in line with these sectors and contribute to supporting them with the necessary expertise.
Jaber explained that achieving this goal requires a positive response to the proposed laws and projects aimed at providing justice to the teachers of this sector. He considered that the draft law submitted by MP Baydoun, which “stipulates holding a restricted competition for contracted teachers and subjecting them to a specialized course,” represents a practical solution after determining the needs and its financial impact.
In a separate context, Minister Jaber met with a delegation of heads of tobacco product sales, where they discussed the proposed fees in the draft 2026 budget law. An agreement was reached to conduct a joint study on this topic between experts in the Ministry of Finance and the Tobacco and Tombac Administration “Regie”.
