المصرف المركزي السوري يؤكد: "الليرة الجديدة" هي المعبر الوحيد عن السيادة النقدية مع انطلاق التداول بها

The “Central Bank of Syria” announced that the new Syrian pound is the sole expression of the state’s monetary authority, and that it is working alongside concerned parties to regulate the monetary situation in a way that serves the stability of markets and the interests of citizens throughout Syria.

In a special statement to the Syrian News Agency “SANA,” Abdul Qader Al-Hasriya, Governor of the “Central Bank of Syria,” clarified that the laws and executive procedures that define the rules and mechanisms for regulating the circulation of other currencies, including the Turkish lira, differ from the replacement process, which is limited to replacing the old currency with a new one.

Al-Hasriya pointed out that the currency replacement comes within planned steps to ensure the ease of the process and not burden citizens with any additional costs.

He affirmed that this process does not concern foreign currencies or the dollar, nor does it aim to regulate or restrict them, and does not affect market movement or foreign currency reserves.

Al-Hasriya also emphasized that the replacement does not target the Turkish lira at this stage, and that the withdrawal of the Turkish lira began separately before the replacement process and is ongoing, confirming that any future regulatory measures will be clear and announced transparently. He called on the media to rely on official sources for information and avoid rumors, affirming his commitment to communication and transparency.

It is worth mentioning that the Minister of Economy and Industry, Nidal Al-Shaar, and the Governor of the “Central Bank of Syria,” Abdul Qader Al-Hasriya, conducted an inspection tour yesterday of a number of currency exchange centers in Damascus, to follow up on the currency exchange mechanisms and verify compliance with the organized instructions and controls.
