The official spokesperson for the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ismail Baghaei, clarified that the ties that bind Iran to Lebanon are ancient and extend through time.
In his response to an inquiry from Tasnim News Agency, Baghaei affirmed that “Our relationship with Lebanon is an ancient and long-standing one, and we are determined to continue it,” pointing to the arrival of the new Iranian ambassador last week and his meeting with the Lebanese Foreign Minister, and to the completion of his accreditation procedures, with anticipation of him beginning his duties at his headquarters in the coming weeks.
He also stated that “Dialogue between two countries that have good diplomatic relations is a continuous matter by its nature.”
These statements come at a time when relations between Lebanon and Iran are witnessing an escalating political and media debate, against the backdrop of recent regional developments, especially the escalation in southern Lebanon, and the tensions related to Iran’s influence in the region.
