صفقات الطاقة المصرية بين الجزائر ورأس شقير: آفاق مستقبلية نحو 2025

Major energy deals in Egypt during “2025” witnessed significant activity both domestically and internationally, with a clear diversification in the fields of oil, gas, electricity, renewable energy, and “green hydrogen,” within a plan aimed at strengthening supply security and stimulating long-term investments.

In the oil sector, “Petrojet’s” winning of the contract to develop the second phase of the “Hassi Bir Rekaiz” field in Algeria, valued at approximately “$1.087” billion, stood out, as part of an Egyptian-Italian alliance comprising “Petrojet” and “Arcada SPA.” The works include the construction of a central processing plant with a capacity of “31.5” thousand barrels per day and the extension of pipelines with a length of “217” kilometers. In “August 2025,” “4” agreements were signed with international companies to drill “10” exploratory wells, including “Shell,” “Eni,” “Zarubezhneft,” and “Arqueos Energy.”

As for the gas sector, an Egyptian alliance won contracts within the “Ruwaiss” LNG project in the Emirates during “January,” after the announcement of the awarding of “3” contracts worth “8” billion dirhams, or “$2.1” billion, which included a primary conditioning plant, compression facilities, and pipelines. In “May 2025,” a deal emerged for a floating LNG import terminal through a “10”-year agreement between “EGAS” and “Höegh LNG.”

Regarding the electricity sector, “February 2025” witnessed an agreement between the Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy and the Emirati company “AMEA Power” to establish two energy storage plants with a total capacity of “1500” MW/hour, one in “Benban” in Aswan with a capacity of “500” MW/hour and the other in “Zafarana” with a capacity of “1000” MW/hour. In “June 2025,” progress was recorded in the “High Dam” efficiency improvement project, with an increase in production capacity to “2400” MW and the connection of the first new transformer to the national grid.

In the renewable energy sector, a wind project with a capacity of “500” MW in the “Gulf of Suez” was among the most prominent deals of the year, following an agreement between the Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company and “Siemens Gamesa” under a “build, finance, operate” system. The Norwegian company “Scatec” also began in “May 2025” the implementation of a solar power plant with a capacity of approximately “1.1” GW and a storage project with a capacity of “200” MW/hour, with a long-term electricity sales contract for “25” years supported by a sovereign guarantee.

In the field of “green hydrogen,” the year “2025” witnessed the launch of a major initiative with investments exceeding “$7.6” billion, through an agreement to develop an integrated plant for the production of “green hydrogen” and “green ammonia” in “Ras Ghareb,” in partnership with a consortium including the French “EDF” and “Zero Waste.” Cooperation agreements were also signed with Japanese companies in “August 2025” through the Suez Canal Economic Zone to support the infrastructure and applications of “green hydrogen.” (Al-Taaqa)
