Deputy Mohammad Sleiman clarified in a statement that he had repeatedly called for expediting the establishment of the Arida crossing, according to practical and sustainable studies, so that its role is not limited to emergencies only. He pointed out that the crossing is now vulnerable to collapse due to the significant rise in the water level of the Great Southern River.
Sleiman also pointed out that the closure of the Arida crossing, with the continued closure of other northern crossings, specifically “Al-Aboudiya” and “Jisr Qammar,” despite their readiness, requires diligent and necessary follow-up on the political and official levels by the Lebanese state, in coordination with the Syrian leadership, to remove technical obstacles and reopen these crossings, in addition to the restoration of the Arida crossing.
He considered that the opening of the crossings is a fundamental and urgent demand to alleviate the burdens on the Akkar and North governorates, and contribute to stimulating commercial and economic activity, calling for taking responsibilities and taking immediate measures before the damage worsens.
